For much of the offseason, many San Francisco 49ers fans hoped the front office would lure in veteran pass-rusher Joey Bosa via free agency, finally pairing him with his younger brother, Nick Bosa, in a one-two edge-rushing tandem that'd certainly sell a lot of tickets.
Well, the Niners are apparently landing a veteran pass-rusher. But it's not someone with the last name of Bosa.
Instead, and likely because of the influence from defensive coordinator Raheem Morris, San Francisco is onboarding defensive end Ogbonnia Okoronkwo, a 31-year-old pro who spent time with Morris when both were with the Los Angeles Rams, previously.

Reunites with DC Raheem Morris from their time together with Rams.
Since the deal hasn't been officially released yet, it's unclear what move the 49ers will make to clear a spot on their 90-man offseason roster. But after losing rookie defensive end Makail Kamara to a torn ACL in training camp, it's evident the Niners at least needed to beef up their depth ahead of the preseason.
What will Ogbo Okoronkwo bring to 49ers?
L.A.'s fifth-round pick from the 2018 NFL Draft, Okoronkwo is fairly well-traveled enough as a journeyman pass-rusher, spending time with the Houston Texans, Cleveland Browns and briefly with the Philadelphia Eagles after his original Los Angeles tenure.
His tenure in Philly was ultimately cut short by injury, but over his seven year career, the 6-foot-2 and 253-pound defender has logged 132 tackles, 31 of which were for a loss, 17 sacks, 38 quarterback hits and four forced fumbles over 81 games, 13 of them starts.
It's pretty clear San Francisco isn't looking to make Okoronkwo a key part of its defensive formula; at best he'll be a rotational player backing up edge rushers like Bosa, Mykel Williams and Romello Height.
But, since we don't know the details of his contract yet and whether or not he carries any guaranteed money, even speculating about his chances of making the regular-season 53-man roster is a bit premature at this point.
There's a strong chance Okoronkwo is merely a camp body and little more.
Either way, reuniting with Morris figures to be a boost to the veteran's prowess, and said contract is certainly going to be on the cheaper side.
It's just not the name many 49ers fans might've been hoping to see.
