In a series of events that is not even a little bit surprising, San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk has seemingly burned his bridge to the Washington Commanders before he even had a chance to cross it.
There was a viral social media video showing a fan taunting Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels about Aiyuk, and Daniels just laughed about it. Apparently Aiyuk didn’t like that, so naturally, he posted about it on social media and unfollowed Daniels on Instagram.
Daniels proceeded to unfollow Aiyuk, so it seems the one team that might have taken a chance on him when he is inevitably released by the 49ers will now probably steer clear if its quarterback doesn’t have any interest in teaming up with him.
Given Aiyuk’s erratic social media behavior, this doesn’t come as any sort of shock.
Who can he turn to now, though? Will there be any teams willing to take a chance on him?
Los Angeles Chargers
This might be a team that would be willing to try with him. Head coach Jim Harbaugh certainly took chances on guys with character issues when he was the head coach of the 49ers, and his offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel knows how good Aiyuk can be from their time together with San Francisco.
Maybe the Chargers would be willing to give Aiyuk a highly incentivized deal that is very easy to pull the plug on if he acts up.
Houston Texans
DeMeco Ryans got to see Aiyuk play some good football when he was the defensive coordinator of the 49ers. Quarterback C.J. Stroud could use some more offensive weapons, so maybe they’d be desperate enough to give Aiyuk a shot.
Tennessee Titans
Robert Saleh didn’t really overlap much with Aiyuk during his two stints with the Niners, but given the fact the Titans could use some help at wide receiver to give Cam Ward a boost in his second NFL season, maybe they’d take a chance on Aiyuk and see if he still has the goods.
Of course, at this point, there’s reason to believe no team would touch Aiyuk with a 10-foot pole. He’s behaving so bizarrely, is clearly so obsessed with himself, and doesn’t have the right people around him, so this behavior would likely continue on his next team.
Crazier things have happened, but it would not come as a very big shock if Aiyuk does not sign with a team because the rest of the NFL is just scared off by his behavior.
He has probably burned the only bridge that was a realistic opportunity, which is a fitting way for this saga to end if he ends up going unsigned after all of his ridiculous antics.
