3 winners and 1 loser from 49ers’ Week 1 win over the Jets

There were not many losers for the 49ers on Monday night against the visiting Jets.

The 'Loser': Brandon Aiyuk

To be clear, Brandon Aiyuk did not have a disaster of a game or anything like that. He caught two passes for 28 yards but he did have two drops, one of which came on an absolute dime of a pass from quarterback Brock Purdy in the corner of the end zone.

It was not an easy catch by any means. Aiyuk had to dive for it and could have very easily brought it down, but after what we saw from last year it is a play we expect Aiyuk to make which just speaks to how good he is.

However, Aiyuk did get chewed out by Hall of Famer Peyton Manning on live television over on the Manningcast during the game. Any time you get chewed out by Peyton, that makes you at least a tiny bit of a loser at least in that moment, so maybe that will provide some extra motivational fuel for Aiyuk to haul in the next touchdown pass.

Overall, there was not much to complain about in this Week 1 victory for the 49ers versus the Jets. There are always small things to clean up but, one hopes that this win can set the tone for the Niners in 2024 and propel them to another good year.
