49ers OTA storyline No. 3: Ronnie Bell on the ascent

San Francisco used a seventh-round pick on former Michigan wide receiver Ronnie Bell, who was one of the notables during rookie minicamp not long after the draft.

It was one thing for Bell to turn up there and essentially outshine the rest of his competition.

It's another for him to be the standout from OTAs when there are plenty of veterans striving to keep him from ascending the depth chart.

Granted, Brandon Aiyuk was dealing with a minor injury during the first week of practice, and Deebo Samuel elected not to report to the voluntary sessions, meaning players like Bell would receive more attention than they otherwise would have if both Aiyuk and Samuel were active and participating.

That said, as Grant Cohn pointed out, Bell "became everyone's favorite target" and also "caught a team-high six catches, and a few of them were heavily contested."

While Bell might not be able of seizing much more than a fourth or fifth spot on the receiving depth chart, no one else seems to be coming close to threatening him.
