Recently, quarterbacks Lamar Jackson and Troy Aikman have gotten into a legal dispute over who is the rightful owner of the No. 8.

San Francisco 49ers legend Steve Young decided to have some fun with this by getting into the action himself on social media.

Steve Young joins in on legal battle over the rightful owner of No. 8

If you are not familiar with this dispute, apparently both Jackson and Aikman have filed for trademarks regarding No. 8. It seems like an odd thing to try to claim ownership of, considering many athletes across many sports have worn the number.

Apparently, the main crux of the matter is that Jackson's legal team believes Aikman's logos could cause confusion between the two athletes. Experts believe that Aikman likely has the upper hand in this battle because his logo is not that similar to Jackson's.

Aikman himself had some fun with this on social media and his post can be viewed below:

If you cannot acces the post, Aikman writes: "Hey Lamar - looks like a worthy conversation over a couple cold EIGHT beers! Maybe Steve Young can arbitrate??"

Then today, Steve Young gave his response to Aikman on the social media platform X:

If you cannot acces Young's post, he writes: "A little late to the party but here’s my take: With multiple MVPs and Super Bowls between all of us, there should be plenty of #8 to go around! If not, hey Troy looks like he’s in pretty good shape maybe the three of us should settle this with a skills test..." and he includes a GIF from the film Napoleon Dynamite of Uncle Rico drilling Napoleon with a football.

That might be a great event for the Pro Bowl this season: Young, Aikman, and Jackson have a series of skills competitions and whoever wins gets the rights to No. 88 forever. I know I would certainly tune in.

It is nice to see Aikman and Young having some fun with this, though. Any sort of legal dispute like this has the potential to turn petty and nasty, so it is great to see these former rivals joking around about it.

We will have to see how this legal dispute plays out, but 49ers fans will always know who truly has the right to number in their hearts.
