San Francisco 49ers practice squad roster: full list
By Mike Luciano
The San Francisco 49ers are officially done with the preseason, which means that cut day came and went as the roster was trimmed to just 53 players. John Lynch is by no means done acquiring talent, however, as the 49ers are trying to fill out the remainder of their practice squad.
As Brock Purdy has shown, you never truly know when any seldom-used backup player will be called into action. As a result, San Francisco is indebted to create the deepest collection of talent in the league.
The practice squad is starting to take shape. While the list will assuredly change in the coming weeks, it looks like the talent on display in San Francisco is quite impressive.
San Francisco 49ers practice squad roster: full list
EDGE Jonathan Garvin
A former seventh-round pick of the Green Bay Packers, the Miami alum piled up 32 tackles and 1.5 sacks over the last three seasons.
SAF Tracy Walker
Walker spent parts of the last six seasons with the Detroit Lions, recording four sacks and three interceptions as an occasional starter. The 49ers signed him with the intention to elevate him to the Week 1 roster.
WR Tay Martin
Martin, who spent his college career at both Washington State and Oklahoma State, is back with the 49ers practice squad for the third straight season. He hasn't earned a role with the team yet, but Kyle Shanahan sure likes keeping him around.
CB Chase Lucas
TE Mason Pline
QB Tanner Mordecai
Mordecai bounced around between SMU and Wisconsin in college. A solid athlete with an accurate arm, Mordecai will be the fourth-string quarterback.
OT Isaac Alarcon
OG Sebastian Gutierrez
DT Evan Anderson
IOL Drake Nugent
DT T.Y. McGill
WR Trent Taylor
Taylor, a diminutive 5-8, 178-pound receiver, returns to the same team who drafted him in the fifth round.
SAF Jaylen Mahoney
EDGE Alex Barrett
TE Brayden Willis
Willis will be a backup tight end one year after getting picked in the seventh round. At least he beat out Cameron Latu.
WR Terrace Marshall
A former second-round pick and member of a champion LSU team, Marshall will try to get back on track in San Francisco.
