Does anyone stand a chance at competing with the 49ers in the NFC West?

1. San Francisco 49ers (2-0)

It is pretty easy to put the 49ers atop these power rankings, like we did after Week 1. San Francisco has looked like a well-oiled machine for the large majority of their first eight quarters. Defensively, there were a few questions against the Rams whom they allowed to hang with them at times on Sunday. But, San Francisco looks like the cream of the crop once more in 2023.

The 49ers saw Brock Purdy held without a touchdown pass for the first time in his young career, but as you would guess, that doesn't bother anybody so long as the team is winning. San Francisco got their work in on the ground, scoring three rushing touchdowns in this one; one each by Purdy, Christian McCaffrey and Deebo Samuel.

Defensively, the 49ers did enough to win. They might have allowed the Rams to keep it somewhat close for a large portion of the game, but the defense was able to pick off Matthew Stafford a couple of times which wound up being a big difference in the end result.

Next week, San Francisco will take on a New York Giants team that needed a fourth quarter comeback to beat the lowly Arizona Cardinals.
