Report: Trent Williams and the San Francisco 49ers are finalizing a new deal
San Francisco 49ers fans were feeling nervous about left tackle Trent Williams holding out and potentially missing games, but some recent news might see the team all ready for Week 1.
One wrinkle (among a few) in the San Francisco 49ers preseason was that left tackle Trent Williams holding out so relatively close to Week 1 meant that the team was struggling to hand two holdouts on an offense that won't likely be so potent after this season.
While wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk was eventually signed to a new deal, Williams wasn't budging. What was worse was unlike Aiyuk who was part of a talented receiving corps, Williams was arguably the most irreplaceable person on the whole roster. His ability to anchor the 49ers offensive line cannot be understated.

With the 49ers opening their season on Monday Night Football against the New York Jets, having the team together and getting off to a big start was a must. Thankfully for the 49ers and their anxious fans, the latest news from Adam Schefter is very promising:
While a deal hasn't yet been officially confirmed as of writing, the fact that Williams is returning to the Bay Area is a very promising sign. There's not too much lost if it gets signed tomorrow or later in the week, as long as he's able to suit up for Week 1 to take on a New York Jets outfit longing to atone for a difficult 2023 season that essentially ended in the first quarter of the first game last season.
And as for quarterback Brock Purdy, he must be feeling elated if a little frustrated by the whole ordeal. While it's taken all offseason and preseason to get here, he looks set to have his favorite wide receiver and his big bodyguard at left tackle ready to suit up for Week 1.
