8. Trey Lance (2022 to current)

At No. 8, we have Trey Lance.

Now, Lance comes in at this number, less for what he has done, but more for what he hasn't. We have not seen enough of him to know either way.

Lance was the third overall selection in the 2021 NFL Draft. The 49ers traded a haul of first-round picks to move up and select him, and in year one, Lance went 1-1 in playing in relief of an injured Jimmy Garoppolo.

True, Lance showed flashes of excellence during those two starts but also showed just how rough around the edges he was.

In 2022, Lance took over as the starter to begin the season, although before anyone could get a real gauge of who he was, he suffered a broken ankle in Week 2 and missed the rest of the season.

Brock Purdy would end up finishing the 2022 season as the starter. But due to his injury in the playoffs and ensuing surgery, some think Lance may have a second chance to be a starter. If not though, then his shot will have come and gone before anyone could really get to know who he was as a player.
