No other QB was as good as Brock Purdy in Week 1 (according to Pro Football Focus)

At least one notable football analysis site felt Brock Purdy was the best quarterback in the NFL after one week.

19. 30. Final. 32. 42. 49ers-Jets final

Pro Football Focus grades aren't the end-all, be-all. But they're feeling pretty good about Brock Purdy's efforts in Week 1 on Monday Night Football.

There was one clear-cut star from the San Francisco 49ers' 32-19 smashing Monday Night Football victory over the visiting New York Jets.

Running back Jordan Mason.

The fill-in tailback, who got the spot start over an injured Christian McCaffrey, commanded the ground game with a 147-yard, one-touchdown performance. While there were plenty of other quality performances, Mason was the majority standout.

Quarterback Brock Purdy, tasked with outperforming the Jets' own, Aaron Rodgers, enjoyed a workmanlike game, too.

According to Pro Football Focus, though, Purdy outclassed every other quarterback in the league after Week 1.

Brock Purdy finishes Week 1 as PFF's No. 1-ranked quarterback

Purdy's line in Week 1 wasn't exactly dominant: 19-of-29 passing for 231 yards, zero touchdowns against zero interceptions, an 89.9 passer rating and 11 yards rushing.

In fairness to Purdy, he didn't have to be dominant. Mason was the primary reason why the Niners offense clicked over a tough Gang Green defense, although the third-year signal-caller certainly made a number of high-quality throws, including a long 22-yard reception by wide receiver Jauan Jennings.

Purdy also would have had a beauty of a touchdown pass to fellow wideout Brandon Aiyuk, although the receiver failed to haul in the catch that bounced off his hands, one of two drops on the night.

Nevertheless, PFF recognized Purdy with an 89.6 overall offensive grade, the highest among all quarterbacks after one week of action this season.

The top five are as follows:

  1. Brock Purdy (San Francisco 49ers): 89.6
  2. Sam Darnold (Minnesota Vikings): 88.1
  3. Patrick Mahomes (Kansas City Chiefs): 87.9
  4. Derek Carr (New Orleans Saints): 87.5
  5. Aaron Rodgers (New York Jets): (86.2)

Now, it's fair to admit PFF's grading system is far from perfect, and it's often been looked at as a subjective measure instead of a concrete point of analysis.

That said, most San Francisco fans probably won't take issue with Purdy being atop Week 1 quarterback rankings, while most others across the league might scoff a bit at the 49ers' third-year pro landing in this spot.

Let the debate begin, we suppose.
