Predicting 49ers' running back depth chart (there's 1 star and a lot of questions)
By Scott Conrad
3. Isaac Guerendo
One of the fourth-round picks this spring for the 49ers looks to have some upside in the league. The 24-year-old rookie out of Louisville, Isaac Guerendo, had an impressive last season for the Cardinals.
With more than 1,000 yards from scrimmage, Guerendo had 810 yards on the ground with 132 carries along with 234 receiving yards on 22 catches. He crossed the goal line 11 times with the ball, too.
In addition, Guerendo showed his versatility by fielding 11 kick returns for 211 yards. His ability to become a Swiss Army knife makes him attractive to coach Shanahan and the 49ers offense.
Should an injury occur to McCaffrey and/or Mitchel, Guerendo could be the next man up for the NFC juggernauts. Even if he cannot crack the 53-man roster, the first-year athlete could develop on the practice squad and grow from there.
Especially if the rookie's speed comes into play.
