4 players the 49ers need to step up in NFC West bout vs. Rams
49ers quarterback Brock Purdy
It seems strange that it took this long to get here, but as the weaponry around him continues to diminish, the pressure on Brock Purdy to step up will increase.
That starts on Sunday against a depleted Rams team that just gave up 41 points and 489 yards of total offense to the Arizona Cardinals.
Purdy hasn't necessarily been bad to start the season, but the six sacks and two turnovers he endured in Sunday's loss to the Vikings cannot be repeated if the 49ers have hopes of beating the Rams, let alone to continue their Super Bowl aspirations for the season.
All this means that Purdy has to trust his eyes and find Brandon Aiyuk getting open down field. To trust players like Jordan Mason who have been thrust into larger roles. And to be smart with the football and not put his defense in disadvantageous situations that they may struggle to overcome.
This year is a massive one for Purdy, as he has the potential to break the bank this offseason with another strong season, and the current state of the team is a perfect one to prove he is the guy the 49ers need him to be when called upon.
