49ers overreaction No. 3: Jake Moody is going to be a massive bust

For much of the offseason, both during workouts and into training camp, a big talking point was how rookie kicker Jake Moody was nailing field-goal attempts from 50-plus yards out with ease.

That leg was why the 49ers shocked the NFL world and used a third-round pick in this year's draft to grab the former Michigan placekicker.

Moody's first attempt just before the half from 40 yards out? Hooked to the left. His subsequent try from 58 yards? Pushed far to the right.

Ouch.

The overreaction is that the Niners are this year's version of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who used a second-round pick on kicker Roberto Aguayo, who flamed out almost immediately after such a solid collegiate career.

Moody's NFL career is off to a rocky start, and he won't silence any critics after Sunday's performance.

But San Francisco isn't at an Aguayo level just yet.
