3 options 49ers have to replace All-Pro safety Talanoa Hufanga
Option 3: 49ers can add depth with someone new
As mentioned, there are plenty of options out there for players the 49ers could contact about coming in and joining a Super Bowl contender at this juncture in the season.
The benefit of adding Tayler Hawkins to the active roster or bringing back someone like Tarvarius Moore or Jaquiski Tartt is that it wouldn't take much to get them up to speed, as whoever the 49ers add will need to take on an immediate role for the team.
The situation dicates that it must be someone who can immediately jump in on special teams while also serving as depth on defense, so the Niners may seek out a veteran with something to prove.
Names like former first-round pick Karl Joseph, who has been plagued by injuries since the Las Vegas Raiders took him with the No. 14 overall pick in 2016, or Jaquan Johnson, who is currently on the Buccaneers practice squad but could be poached if the 49ers' intend to add him to the 53-man roster, could be in play.
This feels like the least likely outcome for the Niners, given the need for a player to not need time to acclimate to the system, but it wouldn't be outside of the realm of possibility to see the team bring in a few outsiders for workouts this week.
