Numbers don't lie: 49ers are mirroring the dreadful 2020 season
By Scott Conrad
49ers' offensive scoring has been absent
In 2020, the 49ers had five rushing touchdowns and five passing touchdowns in their first three games. They failed to make the playoffs that season.
This year, they have only scored four passing touchdowns and three rushing touchdowns. Thats three less total scores than four seasons ago. The run game and the passing attack have yet to click in the same game.
Just like in 2020, when the Niners lost to their fellow NFC West opponent early on, they failed to score a rushing touchdown. Only the quarterback's throws resulted in adding points to the score board and not the running attack.
The past three seasons, San Francisco has been an offensive juggernaut. It must be a leap year-type thing: 2020 and now 2024.
If the 49ers hope to make the playoffs, they not only need to find a cure for the injury bug but also find a way to eliminate these two trends. First, they need to have both the running backs and receivers score as much as possible in the same game. Second, San Francisco needs to stop blowing fourth-quarter leads within the division.
