Deebo Samuel put on a Master Class on Thursday Night Football against the Giants. What were some highlights of that game, and how did his performance impact his season as a whole?
While second-year quarterback Brock Purdy might've had the most inspired performance on Thursday Night Football for the San Francisco 49ers, another player gets the MVP award from Niner Noise.
Wide receiver Deebo Samuel had a monster performance in the Niners' 30-12 victory against the New York Giants. His final stat line was six receptions for 129 yards and one touchdown.
Samuel led the game in receiving yards. And to put things in perspective, he had just 8 yards receiving less than the whole Giants team.
The game included a few season firsts for Samuel as well. He had his first 100-plus yard receiving game in the 2023 season. He also had his first receiving touchdown of 2023, too.
That touchdown on TNF was somewhat of a spectacle as well, with Samuel being injured earlier in the drive. 49ers' fans all held their breaths as he was attended to, but would end up walking off the field of his own accord, and shaking off what was later described as a rib injury.
Just a few plays later, he connected with Purdy for a 27-yard touchdown to push the score up to what would eventually be the final score.
The close second to that lively touchdown was Samuel's first down conversion on 3rd-and-15, on the 49ers' first touchdown drive, in the second quarter. He caught a short pass on a screen play and ended up picking up 30 yards in the process.
In a game where the Niners really needed their receivers to step up in the absence of Brandon Aiyuk, Samuel really put on a phenomenal performance.
And for that performance on Thursday, Samuel gets the Niner NoiseThursday Night Football MVP Award.
