The 49ers will face two of their former coordinators, Robert Saleh and Mike McDaniel, as part of their regular-season schedule in 2024.

Despite his critics, the San Francisco 49ers' Kyle Shanahan is a good head coach.

If he wasn't a good head coach, not only would the Niners fail to be in yearly contention for the Super Bowl, but Shanahan wouldn't have ushered forth a sizable coaching tree that has grown well across the rest of the NFL landscape.

There are already plenty of assistants and head coaches who have worked with Shanahan over the course of his career, including head coaches Matt LaFleur and Sean McVay of the Green Bay Packers and Los Angeles Rams, respectively.

But neither LaFleur nor McVay have worked under Shanahan when he was with San Francisco.

However, the 49ers will square off against two of Shanahan's former coordinators this season.

49ers to face Jets' Robert Saleh, Dolphins' Mike McDaniel in 2024

With the 2024 NFL schedule release, not only do we know when the Niners will play each of their opponents this season, but we also know in what weeks they'll have a reunion, of sorts, with two of their previous coordinators.

Week 1 vs. Robert Saleh, New York Jets

San Francisco opens up its 2024 campaign on Monday Night Football against head coach Robert Saleh and the visiting New York Jets.

Saleh, who was Shanahan's first defensive coordinator, spent 2017 through 2020 in that role with San Francisco before accepting New York's head-coaching vacancy. And while Saleh has yet to post a winning season with Gang Green since 2021, getting future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers under center for a full year could make things different in 2024.

Week 16 @ Mike McDaniel, Miami Dolphins

While Saleh's on-field personality was electric and amped, Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel is far more quirky and entertaining.

Seriously, McDaniel can be hilarious.

Serving under Shanahan and the 49ers from 2017 through 2021, taking on the offensive coordinator role that final season, McDaniel has had far more success with Miami than Saleh has enjoyed in New York.

And it'll be fun to watch the offensive geniuses, Shanahan and McDaniel, try and outdo each other this season.
