Jimmy Garoppolo overstayed his welcome with Davante Adams, Raiders

Jimmy Garoppolo overthrows his wide-open receivers? No way.

Davante Adams of the Raiders is now finding out what many 49ers fans knew about Jimmy Garoppolo, and it's not pretty.

There's probably some truth to San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan being "done" with quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo long before the two sides finally parted ways last offseason.

After all, why would the Niners aggressively trade up for now-Dallas Cowboys quarterback Trey Lance back in 2021? If Jimmy G was "the guy," that trade never would have happened. But it did.

Brock Purdy is now San Francisco's starting quarterback, and his emergence was the final straw that led to Garoppolo leaving in free agency and signing a three-year deal with the Las Vegas Raiders.

Halfway through his first season donning the silver and black, it's safe to say Garoppolo isn't garnering a lot of love, particularly from star wide receiver Davante Adams, who has all but had it with his new quarterback after an already questionable start between the two high-profile players.

Davante Adams is finished with Jimmy Garoppolo (and it shows)

During the Raiders' Monday Night Football loss to the Detroit Lions in Week 8, Adams had more than one instance where he was wide open and could have hauled in an easy pass for a touchdown.

On the play below, Garoppolo overthrew the All-Pro by a notable margin, evoking memories that 49ers fans have from Jimmy G's final minutes in Super Bowl LIV.

After the play, Adams made his way to the sideline and was exceptionally frustrated, slamming his helmet and then uttering what appeared to be some not-so-safe-for-work comments about Garoppolo, most likely.

"I came here to play with [former Raiders QB Derek Carr]," Adams admitted last week. "I can't say I would have been here if he wasn't here... No regrets at the end of the day. If we lost every game I wouldn't say I regret my decision because in life you drive yourself crazy if you live that way."

Yikes. Not a good look for Garoppolo.

What do Raiders do with Jimmy Garoppolo?

Garoppolo no longer has the benefit of playing within a team-friendly offense under Shanahan, and it's fair to suggest that Shanahan got the most out of Jimmy G.

Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels, meanwhile, certainly isn't.

Garoppolo leads the entire NFL with nine interceptions on the year, including one on Monday night, and that number is easily on pace to smash his previous career-high of 13 thrown back in 2019.

One ESPN prediction from not long after Jimmy G signed with Vegas suggested he wouldn't last more than a year, and that could easily be the case if the Raiders ultimately decide to clean house after this season.

Perhaps they should. But it's no longer San Francisco's problem.
