Injuries bite 49ers (again) despite convincing win in Week 4 vs. Patriots

The Niners just have a hard time staying healthy, and Week 4 was no exception.

The 49ers enjoyed a get-right game against the Patriots in Week 4, but injuries continued to pile up, including a key All-Pro.

The San Francisco 49ers needed to get right in Week 4 against a rebuilding New England Patriots squad, and that's precisely what happened with the Niners pulling off a convincing 30-13 victory at Levi's Stadium.

But, it wasn't without cost.

San Francisco just welcomed back two of its offensive weapons, wide receiver Deebo Samuel and tight end George Kittle, who both missed Week 3 at the Los Angeles Rams. Yet All-Pro safety Talanoa Hufanga was out with an ankle injury.

There were more names who'll now be added to the 49ers' injury report, though.

49ers victory over Patriots report includes multiple injuries

The Niners lost Pro Bowl defensive tackle Javon Hargrave to a triceps injury last week. With him done for the year, reserve defensive tackle Jordan Elliott got the start and thrived, notching 1.5 sacks in the game but exited with a knee injury and was eventually ruled out from returning.

San Francisco's defensive line, already thin after Hargrave's injury, could have potentially taken another big blow.

In the third quarter, the 49ers watched rookie wide receiver Jacob Cowing suffer a shoulder injury, and he was ruled as questionable to return after continuing his first-year efforts on special teams.

Perhaps the biggest concern, though, is All-Pro linebacker Fred Warner, who had an MVP-caliber kind of game with a pick-six interception that helped set the tone for the Niners defense.

But Warner went down on an attempted fumble recovery just before halftime and was seen heading to the locker room early. Despite returning to the sidline and wearing his uniform, Warner did not head back onto the field and was replaced by second-year backer Dee Winters.

Fortunately, it appeared as if Warner was merely being held in his reserve in case of need. With San Francisco commanding on offense and defense, it didn't appear as if Warner's return would be necessary.

Although Monday's injury report and evaluation will be of notable interest.

At least the 49ers got back to the .500 mark, though.
