5 players the 49ers desperately need for the playoffs

3. Ray Ray McCloud

The 49ers have missed Ray Ray McCloud recently as he has missed time with a rib injury.

Thankfully, like Jennings, McCloud was back at practice this week which is a great sign for his potential availability in the playoffs.

McCloud is a key contributor in multiple ways. First off, he is a solid kick and punt returner for the team. Rarely does he break off huge returns but he holds onto the ball and is smart with his returns.

In his absence, the 49ers have leaned on rookie Ronnie Bell to return punts. While Bell has yet to lose a fumble, he has fumbled a few times and got lucky once when he was ruled down by contact.

Plus, 49ers fans get antsy any time they see a young receiver with the number 10 back there returning punts for them.

Thankfully, with McCloud practicing that bodes well for his chances to play in the playoffs.

While McCloud sees limited time at wide receiver unless other players are hurt, he has proven to be a really great blocker for the team, fitting the wide receiver blocking ethos that permeates the whole team.

It is safe to say that most 49ers fans will be much more comfortable having McCloud back there for punts and kick offs in the postseason.

Sticking with special teams, this next player plays a big role on the overlooked phase of the game.
