4 heroes to salute from 49ers' dominant Week 1 win vs. Jets
By Scott Conrad
2. Quarterback Brock Purdy (just not the 1st quarter)
In the first quarter, Brock Purdy struggled to connect on his passes, specifically to Deebo Samuel who was missed on three of his first-quarter targets. Yet, for the next three quarters of the game, San Francisco's hurler proved to be one of the night's many heroes.
By the second quarter, Purdy returned to form and was able to pull it together. His 22-yard throw to wide receiver Jauan Jennings on a 2nd-and-19 set the 49ers offense up in the red zone.
After starting 2-of-6 on his throws, Purdy would find his rhythm as he went 17 for his next 23 the rest of the game. He would finish with 231 yards and an average of 8 yards per completion.
Purdy did not turn over the ball once this game. He had at least four throws where he racked up at least 20 yards or more including a 34-yard haul by the 49ers' fullback, Kyle Juszczyk.
On the arm of the San Francisco quarterback, Purdy was responsible for half of the 49ers' 24 first downs. The team held possession of the football for over 38 minutes, 17 more minutes than New York.
