5 free agents who may follow Brandon Staley to 49ers

Perhaps some former Rams and Chargers would be willing to join Brandon Staley in San Francisco now.

No. 4: Tight end Gerald Everett

Tight end Gerald Everett is already a player who has seemingly followed Brandon Staley around a little bit, first with the Rams where he spent the first four years of his career from 2017 through 2020, and then over with the Chargers in 2022 and 2023.

Everett, who'll turn 30 years old this offseason, has managed a solid career as an offensive contributor who boasted career-high numbers in 2022 with Staley: 58 catches for 555 yards and four touchdowns.

In what seems like a yearly search, San Francisco has regularly sought a top No. 2 tight end to pair with All-Pro George Kittle, who is also getting into the latter half of his career and does have a bit of an injury reputation. Making things even more challenging, the 49ers could watch two of their more experienced tight end backups, Charlie Woerner and Ross Dwelley, depart via free agency this offseason.

Everett is more potent than either of those two players, and he may want to help solve the 49ers' ongoing search to support Kittle with Staley now in the Bay Area.
