Former 49ers wide receivers available in free agency: Trent Taylor

49ers fans may remember Trent Taylor. He was a slot wide receiver and kick returner for them from 2017 through 2020. He had some solid moments with the team, but unfortunately things did not work out in the end.

There were many comparisons to longtime New England Patriots wide receiver Wes Welker because of their similar stature as smaller wideouts and the fact that they both returned punts.

Unfortunately, injuries and the emergence of other more consistent wide receivers ended Taylor's time in San Francisco. He has gone on to have a solid career primarily as a punt returner for both the Cincinnatti Bengals and Chicago Bears.

A reunion with San Francisco does not seem super likely, but it is not impossible. If the 49ers cannot bring back Ray-Ray McCloud, they will be left without a punt returner. Ronnie Bell looked shaky in the role last season, so the team may want someone more experienced.

Taylor could be a solid punt return option and a fourth wide receiver. He could also be had for not a lot of money on a one-year deal.

The second former 49ers wide receiver available in free agency also used to return kicks for the team, and he actually just won a Super Bowl ring playing against his former squad.
