4 former 49ers QB's who are free agents (and one who will be soon)
Former 49ers available in free agency: Blaine Gabbert
Many 49ers fans can recall the dark days when Blaine Gabbert was the starting quarterback for San Francisco. He went from backing up Colin Kaepernick to replacing him due to injuries, and in some cases, poor performances from Kaepernick.
He was fairly forgettable during his time as a Niner, racking up 15 touchdown passes compared to 13 interceptions and close to 3,000 passing yards over the course of two seasons.
When Kyle Shanahan and John Lynch were hired, they decided to start over at the quarterback position, and Gabbert was not brought back. He has bounced around since then and went on to be a backup for Tom Brady before being Patrick Mahomes' backup last season.
So, Gabbert has been the backup for two of the greatest quarterbacks of all time.
Entering his age 35 season, Gabbert does not seem like a great fit for the Niners. He has no familiarity with Shanahan, and while he is a veteran, he is just not that talented of a quarterback overall.
He will likely find a backup job somewhere, just not with San Francisco.
