No. 3: Defensive tackle Quinton Jefferson (Jets)

If San Francisco wants to go after free agents who certainly won't sign for a veteran's minimum but might be looking to land in an ideal scenario, it could do worse than targeting New York Jets defensive tackle Quinton Jefferson.

Jefferson, 30 years old, has plenty of experience in a 49ers-like defense, not only from his days under head coach Robert Saleh and Gang Green but also multiple tenures with the Seattle Seahawks, including the first four years of his career that started back in 2016.

Granted, Jefferson could be looking for a hefty payday after notching a career-best six sacks last season. But he also might accept a cheaper contract if it means he not only gets to compete for a Super Bowl now but is able to join forces with fellow defensive linemen like Nick Bosa, Javon Hargrave and Arik Armstead.

Armstead, especially, has dealt with serious foot injuries the last two years, and the 49ers need a starting-caliber option to both spell him and back him up.

Especially if fellow defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw departs via free agency.
