5 burning questions the 49ers are left with after minicamp
By John Porter
Who else will emerge at receiver?
Outside of the Aiyuk drama, the battle amongst the pass-catchers may be one of the most intriguing ones on the 49ers roster.
Jauan Jennings has agreed a deal securing his medium-term future, Deebo Samuel will be here for at least one more season, while the team has also added two highly-touted rookies in first-round draft pick Ricky Pearsall -- already drawing rave reviews in the minimal practice so far -- and fourth-round pick Jacob Cowing.
If you combine the above with Aiyuk, who will presumably return to the team at some point, you're already at five receivers on the roster.
That leaves a massive battle for the likely final spot on the roster between Ronnie Bell, who was promising in his rookie season, favoured veteran Chris Conley, the returning Trent Taylor, and an outside shot from last year's third-round draft choice Danny Gray.
While it might not have a huge impact on the 49ers season, it's one of the biggest roster questions facing the team. It's also going to have a huge impact moving forward, given that, come next season, Samuel at the very least is unlikely to be on the team.
Someone emerging out of this competition (and don't rule out Cowing having to rise above these three or four players too) could find themselves in a much bigger role sooner rather than later.
