Brock Purdy putting on a show vs. Cardinals (and Tom Brady approves)
On this scorching hot day in Santa Clara, California, the San Francisco 49ers lead the Arizona Cardinals 23-10 at the half.
In a game in which future Hall of Famer Tom Brady is calling his first 49ers game from the booth for Fox Sports, there have already been some big plays in the first half.
Cardinals's quarterback Kyler Murray ran for a 50-yard touchdown, and the Niners special teams came up big with a blocked field goal, which was returned for a touchdown. Also, 49ers' defensive end Nick Bosa got an interception and put the offense in excellent field position right before the end of the half.
A big part of the 49ers being ahead after the first half is the play of their quarterback, Brock Purdy. He's been great in the first half of this game, throwing for 165 yards and one touchdown while also not turning the ball over.
Purdy has found wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk repeatedly in the first half. After four games in which Aiyuk had averaged 41.8 yards per game, he now has six receptions for 115 yards receiving at the half. This is his first 100-yard first half in his career
When Brady was asked for his thoughts on Purdy the first word that he said was "impressed." He would go on to describe Purdy's maturity as a leader of this 49ers team.
"What I notice is just his maturity about him," Brady said about Purdy. "To me, it's can you process lots of information in a short period of time? Can you be a great leader and dependable for the organization? He is all of those things."
In a game where kicker Jake Moody left the game after an injury sustained during a kickoff, the 49ers will have to lean hard on Purdy in the second half.
