Brock Purdy haters running out of excuses as Kyle Shanahan praises young QB
There are some who still insist Brock Purdy is overrated and overhyped. They're rapidly running out of excuses to explain away the run of career games he's having on a weekly basis.
Some people cling to outdated assumptions about players long after proven wrong. San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy might have been selected with the very final pick of the 2022 NFL Draft, but he has a talent well beyond his draft status.
Purdy made the haters look even dumber than normal, with those claiming he would be found out by an elite defense made to look very foolish as he went 17-for-24 passing for 252 yards and four touchdowns in a 42-10 rout of the Dallas Cowboys.
His stats could have been even better, but a long pass to wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk was called back for a hold and then he was pulled out of the game for most of the fourth quarter when the result was beyond doubt.

Yes, Purdy dominated the vaunted Dallas defense to such an extent that he got to have an early rest, that's beyond amazing. His four touchdowns passing also were a career best. Dropping a 40 burger and putting four touchdowns in the air over Dallas is something special.
Postgame, head coach Kyle Shanahan praised Purdy and how well he played as the 49ers moved to 5-0 and look to be the best team in football right now.
"I mean, he was really good. Everybody was pretty good, but he missed one throw throughout the day from what it seems like. Just a little behind BA (Brandon Aiyuk) in the first quarter one one and everything else seemed pretty flawless. He did a good job."

EDGE Nick Bosa gave his own thoughts on the fact that Purdy was available all the way down the draft to be taken with the final pick.
"Yeah it blows my mind. Extremely, extremely happy that he's here."

And finally, tight end George Kittle was full of flowery praise for his quarterback and their chemistry, which was the least he could do given Purdy gave him his first ever game of three touchdowns receiving.
"Just being able to practice with him. And Brock, his consistency, is what's really helpful...he's the same guy on Wednesday that he is on Sunday. He's super detailed and super confident and he's playing at such a high level right now. It's everything you want in a quarterback and he's just playing at such a high level right now and I think really what the best thing he does, you guys see it, just his ability to move in the pocket and keep his eyes up and see things develop."
- George Kittle
Purdy has been on a complete tear in 2023 to be on the fringes of the MVP conversation. Over five games the talented quarterback has gone 98-for-136 passing for 1271 yards and nine touchdowns and zero interceptions. He also has two additional touchdowns on the ground.
Sooner or later, the Purdy haters will have to give him his flowers. As long as he keeps playing like he did against Dallas, that moment will be sooner rather than later.
Of course, being undefeated in every single game you've started and finished goes plenty towards that as well.
