The San Francisco 49ers and star wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk remain at a stalemate.

Reporting suggests the two sides are not close on a contract extension.

Meeanwhile, Aiyuk's wide receiver coach, T.J .Houshmandzadeh, believes Aiyuk would "be in there tomorrow" if the Niners offered him this contract.

The 49ers have already locked up two of their stars on offense to extensions. They were able to extend star running back Christian McCaffreym which certainly prolongs their championship window by having such a skilled weapon on the team.

Additionally, wide receiver Jauan Jennings was extended through 2025.

However, the Niners could open their championship window even further by successfully extending Aiyuk.

Last season, Aiyuk had a stellar year with 75 catches for 1,342 yards and seven touchdowns. He established himself as an elite wide receiver and also developed a rapport with quarterback Brock Purdy.

The Niners would be wise to do everything they can to extend their leading receiver from the last two years.

Brandon Aiyuk's WR coach suggests contract solution to 49ers

Houshmandzadeh believes the solution to a contract is pretty simple.

He thinks the Niners should just give Aiyuk the same deal that Detroit Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown received:

"If the 49ers want to get BA signed, give him the Amon-Ra deal,"
Houshmandzadeh told 95.7 The Game. "I guarantee he'd be in there tomorrow. They don't want to do that... If they'd offered him Amon-Ra's deal, he would be in camp."

Houshmandzadeh is referring to the four-year, $120 million extension that St. Brown agreed to with Detroit. This would be a pretty rich contract for San Francisco to give out, but it seems like that is what Aiyuk feels he is worth.

Plus, it is important that Houshmandzadeh is a member of Aiyuk's camp and is close to him. He is not speaking on behalf of Aiyuk or his agent, but he certainly has some sense of the way Aiyuk is thinking.

This gives a lot of credibility to what he says.

The Niners are in a tough position with all of this. They certainly want to keep Aiyuk, but they also have to reckon with the potential of giving Purdy a huge contract next offseason or trying to keep some of their other players on the team while contending with the salary cap.

They may have to get creative to do it, but at this point, the 49ers know they must keep Aiyuk on the team at all costs and ensure he is happy.
