4 bold predictions for Brock Purdy, 49ers offense in Week 5 vs. Cardinals

Arizona's defense has been suspect over the first-quarter mark of 2024, meaning Brock Purdy and the Niners can take advantage in this NFC West showdown.

Prediction No. 2: Brandon Aiyuk disappoints again (statistically)

For four weeks now, fans have been waiting for wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk to have a game where he lives up to the lucrative contract extension he demanded all offseason.

To date, no such game has happened.

Granted, Aiyuk is contributing in other ways, and there have been instances where he could have had a bigger statistical impact than what showed up in the box score, including a visual miss by Brock Purdy in Week 3 against the Los Angeles Rams where Aiyuk would have had a walk-in touchdown.

Still, stats are stats, and Aiyuk has just 167 yards on 13 catches and zero scores.

Aiyuk is the kind of player who could explode any moment, and a weak Cardinals defense could provide the opportunity.

However, Aiyuk is primarily a man-beating receiver, while Jon Gannon's defense is primarily a zone-based scheme.

As such, Aiyuk may wind up disappointing fans with the final numbers.
