Kyle Shanahan has never been shy about benching underperforming players, even if they're veterans.

No. 3: 49ers cornerback Deommodore Lenoir

There are only a handful of starting jobs possibly up for grabs in training camp, and one of those is the No. 2 boundary cornerback spot opposite Charvarius Ward. With the nickel corner role held by the offseason free-agent pickup, Isaiah Oliver, this outside spot is still up for grabs.

The player who finished last year as the starter, Deommodore Lenoir, is penciled in as the top option here again in training camp.

So far, so good. Lenoir has looked fine. But, the second half of camp is typically when the offense catches up to the defense, and the Niners are chock full with elite receiving talent, namely Brandon Aiyuk and Deebo Samuel, who could easily make Lenoir look bad.

San Francisco doesn't have too many options to replace Lenoir, should he struggle, Perhaps Ambry Thomas, who is struggling in camp, or the undrafted rookie, D'Shawn Jamison.
