The 49ers schedule for 2023 will be released this month, and we break down what you need to know.

The full list of opponents the San Francisco 49ers will play in the upcoming 2023 season has been known for some time.

Aside from the obligatory two games against each NFC West opponent, the Niners will play the AFC North and NFC East divisions while also having a first-place schedule after finishing last year with the division title.

What we don't know quite yet, however, is exactly how those games will pan out on the NFL schedule. When will San Francisco's grudge match against the Philadephia Eagles be? Will the 49ers finish up the regular season with a must-win contest against a division rival like the Seattle Seahawks? How many prime-time games will the Niners get?

Additionally, San Francisco will be on the road for the 17th at-large game and will also play the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Minnesota Vikings and Jacksonville Jaguars.

When is the full 2023 NFL schedule going to be released?

There hasn't been any confirmed announcement just yet, but insider sources tell FanSided that it'll be Thursday, May 11.

Numerous "leaks" will also likely take place throughout the day up to the official announcement from the league, which is typically at 8 p.m. ET on that day.

What teams are on the 49ers schedule in 2023?

The 49ers will have eight home games at Levi's Stadium this upcoming season and nine games on the road.

As noted, the full list of opponents has been known for some time. It's just the order in which those games are played that is yet to be determined but will be in a matter of days.

Home opponents

  • Arizona Cardinals
  • Los Angeles Rams
  • Seattle Seahawks
  • Dallas Cowboys
  • New York Giants
  • Baltimore Ravens
  • Cincinnati Bengals
  • Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Away opponents

  • Los Angeles Rams
  • Arizona Cardinals
  • Seattle Seahawks
  • Philadelphia Eagles
  • Washington Commanders
  • Cleveland Browns
  • Pittsburgh Steelers
  • Minnesota Vikings
  • Jacksonville Jaguars

That road matchup against Philly should be interesting after what happened in the NFC Championship game last season.

How many primetime games will the 49ers have?

Every team in the NFL is guaranteed at least one primetime game, although those are usually on the mandatory Thursday Night Football matchups.

Teams can also have no more than five primetime games, which is what the Niners had last year. Considering San Francisco has been in back-to-back NFC Championship games and is one of the conference's biggest Super Bowl contenders, it's likely that another five primetime showdowns will be in order.

Stay tuned to May 11 as the likeliest of NFL schedule release dates.
