49ers roster: Who's on the bubble, who isn't after 2 weeks of training camp

There have been a few changes since Niner Noise's last 49ers bubble watch for 2023.

49ers roster bubble watch: Tight end

Lock: George Kittle, Cameron Latu*
Strong bubble: Ross Dwelley, Charlie Woerner
Weak bubble: Brayden Willis
Long shot: Troy Fumagalli

As far as tight end is concerned, there's All-Pro George Kittle, and then there's everyone else.

San Francisco drafted two tight ends this year, Cameron Latu in Round 3 and Brayden Willis in Round 7. Latu, despite some lackluster moments in camp, does have a promising enough pedigree to suggest the 49ers will keep him on the 53-man roster, likely at the expense of at least one veteran.

Perhaps that's Ross Dwelley. Or it could be Charlie Woerner. However, if Kyle Shanahan elects to keep four tight ends, which he's done before, it'd be good news for all of them.

That won't necessarily help out Willis, though, who despite having upside as a blocker and an H-back kind of player, probably doesn't have a niche role in Shanahan's offense and would need both Dwelley and Woerner to completely flame out during training camp to stand a chance.

Willis might be a better candidate for the practice squad in year one.
