There have been a few changes since Niner Noise's last 49ers bubble watch for 2023.

49ers roster bubble watch: Defensive back

Lock: Ji'Ayir Brown*, Tashaun Gipson, Talanoa Hufanga, Deommodore Lenoir, George Odum, Isaiah Oliver, Charvarius Ward
Strong bubble: Ambry Thomas, Myles Hartsfield
Weak bubble: D'Shawn Jamison*, Qwuantrezz Knight, Darrell Luter Jr.*, Tayler Hawkins
Long shot: Anthony Averett, A.J. Parker

Undrafted rookie D'Shawn Jamison has been one of the more promising storylines out of training camp this season, and it wouldn't be shocking if he turns that into a roster spot.

He still has a long way to go, though, but the competition around him isn't exactly a big threat. At least not for a back-end-of-the-roster spot, particularly with fellow rookie Darrell Luter Jr. starting off his first NFL camp on the physically unable-to-perform (PUP) list with an injury. That won't bode well for his own roster chances.

There is a lack of depth at cornerback, which now bodes well for players like Jamison and even Ambry Thomas, while it's hard to envision defensive coordinator Steve Wilks parting ways with one of his hand-picked offseason additions, Myles Hartsfield.

Hartsfield could compete for a for a spot on the safety depth chart, too, but the 49ers are pretty much set there with Tashaun Gipson and Talanoa Hufanga starting, then backed up by special teams ace George Odum and the up-and-coming rookie, Ji'Ayir Brown.
