49ers tight end roster bubble

Lock: George Kittle, Cameron Latu*
Strong bubble: Ross Dwelley, Charlie Woerner
Weak bubble: Brayden Willis*
Long shot: Troy Fumagalli

George Kittle is one of the best tight ends in the NFL.

Behind him exist a couple of "meh" players, a training camp body and two rookies, meaning this position group is going to be awfully provocative when it comes to figuring out who is the No. 2 option behind Kittle.

Dwelley could figure into this spot, as he was effectively that back in 2019 and 2020. But, with zero in dead money after June 1, if cut, his roster spot is anything but a lock. Likewise, Charlie Woerner is entering the final year of his rookie contract, and he might not have much a future with the Niners either.

The two names to watch, of course, are the rookies, Cameron Latu and Brayden Willis.

Latu, a third-round pick, is virtually a lock by way of his draft positioning. Willis, who has promise as an H-back, still has a lot to prove if he wants to move into that category, being a seventh-round pick, of course.
