49ers preseason grades vs. Titans: Jordan Mason shines, run defense flops
Final Thoughts
The 49ers special teams had no major competitions, though they seemed to forget how to tackle returners. But a couple other players made major strides, both forward and backwards that did not fit these setups.
Rookie right guard Dominick Puni played extensive snaps for a preseason game and put together a strong performance, a good sign as he tries to win the starting spot. Linebacker Dee Winters was aggressive throughout, perhaps too much so at times, and seems to have a bead on the LB3 spot.
And Malik Mustapha's hit reverberated throughout the game:
The 49ers will not be able to make any decisions on these roster battles just yet, but some players made a major step forward for themselves.
Now they just need to keep it going into joint practices with the New Orleans Saints this week.
