Who will 49ers peg to back up quarterback Brock Purdy in 2024?

49ers option No. 2: Mitchell Trubisky is a viable target
Now a free agent after his two seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Mitchell Trubisky is available to sign elsewhere. He carries a few more years of experience, and perhaps success, than Sam Darnold.
In 2023, Trubisky only tallied 632 yards with four touchdowns and five interceptions. Despite limited playing time and a year on the bench previously in Buffalo with the Bills, he would add depth to the quarterback room for San Francisco.
In his first four years with the Chicago Bears, Trubisky threw for over 10,000 yards with 64 touchdowns and 37 interceptions. His completion percentage during those years was 64 percent.
A veteran who wants to win always looks nice for a team that is recovering from its second Super Bowl loss in the last four years.
