49ers open up as surprise road favorites vs. Eagles in Week 13
By Peter Panacy
Despite having a worse record and being on the road, oddsmakers are listing the 49ers as visiting favorites against the Eagles in a high-profile Week 12 tilt.
The Philadelphia Eagles never had a three-game losing streak this season. In fact, head coach Nick Sirianni's squad has just the one loss, a surprising road defeat at the hands of the New York Jets way back in Week 6.
Meanwhile, the San Francisco 49ers have had that three-game losing streak, although they have certainly rectified whatever issues were plaguing them, as demonstrated by three consecutive wins in which the Niners have averaged just over 30 points scored per game and have allowed a total of 30 points combined over the recent win streak.
Perhaps that's the reason why oddsmakers like San Francisco to pull off a victory on the road in this high-profile Week 13 bout at Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday, the grudge match after what went down last January between the two teams in the NFC Championship game.
49ers open as slight road betting favorites vs. Eagles
The 8-3 49ers opened up as 1.5-point road favorites over the 10-1 Eagles, according to the oddsmakers at FanDuel.
The Niners' moneyline is -126, while Philly's moneyline is +108.
Most sportsbooks give the home team a three-point advantage no matter what, then adjust odds from there, meaning if the game was played at a neutral site, San Francisco would be 4.5-point favorites instead of a point-and-a-half.
It's possible the oddsmakers appreciate the 49ers' "mini bye" week after beating the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday Night Football in Week 12, whereas Philadelphia had a hard-fought overtime win against the visiting Buffalo Bills on Sunday night. Extra rest does matter, and it can help offset the travel.

Or, just as likely, the same oddsmakers are convinced the Niners have more pound-for-pound talent and are playing at a higher level right now than their Eagles counterparts.
Philly fans may disagree, but Vegas would only care if the money started pouring in one direction over the other.
The two teams kick off on Sunday, Dec. 3 at 4:25 p.m. from Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
