The 49ers turned to the NFL Draft to restock an aging and increasingly expensive roster in 2025, and they may do so again in 2026.
The San Francisco 49ers managed to survive the debacle of aggressively trading up for quarterback Trey Lance in the 2021 NFL Draft, ultimately finding their franchise starter in Brock Purdy with the draft's final selection a year later.
Lance was ultimately traded off to the Dallas Cowboys just ahead of the 2023 regular season in exchange for a fourth-round pick, ending that experiment, yet general manager John Lynch found himself without a first-round pick in 2022 and 2023, finally getting back into Round 1 in 2024.
Things finally returned to normal.
With an aging roster and plenty of increasingly expensive player contracts, San Francisco needs to hit on at least a few prospects in 2025 and 2026, though.
Let's take a look at what draft picks it will have at its disposal this year, next year and even beyond.
49ers NFL Draft picks in 2026
The Niners currently own one each in Rounds 1 through 5 in 2026, sending their seventh to the Texans in exchange for defensive tackle Khalil Davis at the 2024 trade deadline.
Additionally, the 49ers sent a sixth-round pick to the Washington Commanders for running back Brian Robinson just days before the 2025 regular season.
In total, San Francisco is projected to have eight picks.
- Round 1
- Round 2
- Round 3
- Round 4
- Round 4 (compensatory)
- Round 4 (compensatory)
- Round 4 (compensatory)
- Round 7 (conditional, from Patriots)
The 49ers sent a conditional fifth-round selection to the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for defensive end Bryce Huff, and the pick can turn into a fourth-rounder depending on Huff's performance.
A Round 6 selection, originally from the Minnesota Vikings, was given to the New England Patriots for defensive end Keion White and the Pats' seventh-rounder, which is conditional.
San Francisco is expected to receive a total of three comp picks in 2026 for the net loss of qualifying free agents: safety Talanoa Hufanga, corerback Charvarius Ward and left guard Aaron Banks.
Officially, the league won't announce compensatory selections until after the Super Bowl upon the start of the 2026 league new year.
49ers NFL Draft picks in 2027 and beyond
Having not used much of their 2027 draft capital yet, the 49ers possess all of their picks from Rounds 1 through 5 but traded their sixth-rounder to the Kansas City Chiefs for wide receiver Skyy Moore and K.C.'s Round 7 selection just ahead of the 2025 regular season:
- Round 1
- Round 2
- Round 3
- Round 4
- Round 5
- Round 7
- Round 7 (from Chiefs)
Currently, the same applies for 2028 and beyond when the Niners are still projected to have each of their seven picks, distributed across all seven rounds of the draft.
