The San Francisco 49ers defense struggled on Christmas night against the Baltimore Ravens. The Niners game up 33 points to the Lamar Jackson-led offense and simply looked outmatched by the impressive quarterback.

49ers need to add Ndamukong Suh to their team to address injuries

While no one position group can be blamed, it is no secret that the 49ers could use some more help on their defensive front. Arik Armstead is dealing with a foot injury that sounds more and more like it could affect his ability to return this season. And Javon Hargrave has dealt with injury issues if his own, although he played against Baltimore.

The players who have replaced them, Javon Kinlaw and Kevin Givens, are solid football players, yes.

But they still need more help up front.

Keep in mind, the defense allowed over 200 rushing yards to the lowly Arizona Cardinals just two games ago, and the Niners will need to improve on defense the rest of the regular season and in the postseason if they want to be a true Super Bowl contender.

The 49ers already signed defensive tackle Sebastian Joseph-Day to address the need at defensive tackle, but there is another free agent available who would help the D-line.

In comes Ndamukong Suh.

The veteran defensive lineman has earned a reputation for being a dirty player over the years, but at his peak, he was one of the most feared defensive linemen in the league.

Suh would fit nicely on the defensive line as an experienced veteran who would not have to play every snap and could rotate at the tackle spots with Kinlaw and Givens.

As the 49ers proved by adding both Randy Gregory and Chase Young via trade this season, you can never have enough depth at any position.

Signing Suh is a necessary move for this Niners team so they can strengthen their defense going into a critical stretch of the season.
