Jake Moody tried making a tackle on a Cardinals kick returner just before halftime, and it resulted in a potentially bad leg injury.

Update: Jake Moody has been ruled OUT with an ankle injury.

The San Francisco 49ers enjoyed a massive swing in momentum in Week 5 against the Arizona Cardinals when they managed to block a would-be red bird field goal late in the second quarter.

The Niners not only blocked the attempt, defensive tackle Jordan Elliott getting his hand on the ball, but cornerback Deommodore Lenoir scooped up the loose ball and returned it all the way into the end zone for a crazy touchdown.

However, the special teams' happiness didn't exactly last long.

Jake Moody suffers injury on kickoff return

On Arizona's ensuing kickoff return, Cardinals return specialist DeeJay Dallas took it out of the end zone where kicker Jake Moody attempted to make a tackle.

Moody appeared to be bent back, suffering what looks like an ankle injury in the process.

While Moody was able to get up and walk off the field under his own power despite some lengthy on-field attention, multiple reporters shared he had to be carted off to the locker room not long thereafter:

Teams don't carry backup kickers on their gameday rosters since injuries at this position are so rare in a game.

However, punter Mitch Wishnowsky ended up making a field goal in Moody's stead at the very end of the second half, suggesting San Francisco might be able to navigate its kicker's absence if he misses the rest of the game.

Moody's status is officially questionable to return, and check back here for updates.
