49ers focus on offense in our latest 7-round mock NFL Draft

It's my first mock NFL Draft for the Niners in a while, so bear with me.

And it's very offensive-centric.

Round 7, Pick No. 251 overall: 49ers select wide receiver Lideatrick Griffin, Mississippi State

Wide Receiver. Lideatrick Griffin. Lideatrick Griffin. Lideatrick Griffin. . . 251. player. 893. Scouting Report

Assuming San Francisco is able to come to terms with an extension for star wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk, the top three on this position's depth chart will be easily set: Aiyuk, Deebo Samuel and Jauan Jennings.

What's needed, however, is a shifty slot option who can ideally double as a return specialist.

At 5-foot-10 and 181 pounds, Mississippi State wide receiver Lideatrick Griffin has some notable size concerns and wouldn't be much more than a gadget player on offense, namely as a slot option when the 49ers (rarely) go four-wide.

That said, Griffin had 1,640 kick-return yards with two touchdowns over his four-year collegiate career, and that could add some needed explosiveness on special teams for a Niners squad that lost its primary returner in Ray-Ray McCloud during the offseason.

There's a thought San Francisco could look to draft a quarterback for developmental purposes, too, especially considering the gem of a find it had with Brock Purdy back in 2022.

However, with Purdy, Josh Dobbs and Brandon Allen already occupying three spots on the offseason roster, it's likely an undrafted free agent would be the best choice for that potential need.

The 2024 NFL Draft will kick off on Thursday, April 25 from Detroit, Michigan.
