49ers fans will be pumped at new documentary featuring Deebo Samuel, George Kittle
Here's a preview of what to expect.
In case you haven't heard, July 10 will be a big day for one receiver on the San Francisco 49ers.
No, that receiver is not Brandon Aiyuk. No, that's not the day he will get his contract extension. Well, it could be, but that's not the point.
The receiver primed for a big day on July 10 is Deebo Samuel Sr. He and his fellow teammate on the Niners, tight end George Kittle, will be featured on the new Netflix series Receiver, which debuts on July 10.
The show is being brought to fans by executive producer Peyton Manning, who was among the creators of Netflix's 2023 hit show, Quarterback.
Receiver, as one can deduce, will follow five receivers throughout the 2023 NFL season as they navigate football and life. The ups, the downs, the heartbreak and the joy will all be highlighted on this show.
What can we possibly expect from the two 49ers in the upcoming series? Let's take a look at what might be featured on the show for each of them.
Deebo Samuel
Not your typical wide receiver, Samuel does it all for San Francisco. In the trailer for Receiver, Samuel is heard saying he's a "running back, kick returner, receiver."
That is not an exaggeration as he put up numbers in all three of those areas in the 2023 season.
On the ground, he rushed for 225 yards and five touchdowns. As a kick returner, he had six returns for 154 yards, an average of 25.7 yards per return.
Finally, as a receiver, he had 60 receptions, 892 receiving yards and seven touchdowns.
One big focus of Samuel's segments on the series will likely revolve around his versatility. The other focus of his segments, it appears, will focus on his relationship with his son, Tyshun Jr.
In the trailer, Samuel (whose real name is Tyshun) can be seen spending time with his son, and hopefully, the series will give fans some insight into him as a family man and his off-the-field life.
George Kittle
Kittle is not your typical wide receiver either, being that he's not a receiver at all, but rather a tight end. However, no one can deny that he puts up numbers that are comparable to the best receivers in the league.
In 2023, Kittle finished with 65 receptions, 1,020 receiving yards and six touchdowns. That receiving yardage led all tight ends in the season and earned him both Pro Bowl and All-Pro selections.
Kittle's on-field production is undeniable, both as a pass catcher and as a top-notch run blocker.
However, his off-the-field life should be equally as entertaining.
Based on what fans saw in the trailer for Receiver, a big focus of Kittle's segments will showcase his relationship with his family, in particular his wife Claire, whom he refers to as his "battery."
Not showcased in the trailer, but what will hopefully also be covered in the series is Kittle's pro wrestling fandom. It has crossed over into the NFL and vice versa, with Kittle being a part of various promotions' live shows.
If anything like its predecessor Quarterback, this upcoming series should provide a great in-depth look at both Kittle's and Samuel's lives, and maybe teach fans something they don't already know about the players.
