49ers depth chart: Nick Bosa holding out benefits these 3 players the most

The 49ers have plenty of defensive linemen who are on the fringes of the roster, so Nick Bosa holding out means more field time for the rest of these players.

Clelin Ferrell was selected not too far behind Nick Bosa in the 2019 NFL Draft, and the 49ers now have both

Nick Bosa was the best player selected in the 2019 NFL Draft (biased, but whatever...).

Selected at No. 2 overall, the Oakland Raiders subsequently grabbed former Clemson edge Clelin Ferrell at No. 4 overall.

The two players couldn't have had more different trajectories, though.

Bosa is a megastar, while Ferrell was relegated to a rotational pass-rusher by the time his Raiders tenure was up, amassing a mere 10 sacks and 15 tackles for a loss over his first four years before hitting the open market.

Like Austin Bryant, Ferrell has the talent, and the 49ers hope they can create the right context for the former top-four draft pick to finally flourish despite his career underwhelming up to this point.

Perhaps even more than Bryant, largely because of health, Ferrell can prove that he should not only be a regular part of the rotation for the Niners this year, but he could potentially earn his way into starting opposite Bosa, too.
