49ers depth chart: Nick Bosa holding out benefits these 3 players the most

The 49ers have plenty of defensive linemen who are on the fringes of the roster, so Nick Bosa holding out means more field time for the rest of these players.

Nick Bosa elected to hold out from training camp as he awaits a new contract from the 49ers, meaning others get his share of the practice reps.

In a not-too-shocking development, edge Nick Bosa, the reigning Defensive Player of the Year, is holding out and away from San Francisco 49ers training camp as he awaits what'll likely be the biggest contract for a non-quarterback in NFL history.

While most fans will frown on Bosa doing so, it's actually smart business on his end as he would otherwise prepare to use his talents on the final year of his "cheap" rookie contract signed back in 2019.

Honestly, Bosa doesn't need training camp. He won't need the preseason either.

His absence, though, opens up opportunities for other edge rushers and defensive linemen on the Niners' 90-man offseason roster who are otherwise on the fringes or are fighting for key roles on the depth chart.

Including these three, who benefit the most from Bosa being absent.

Drake Jackson benefits from Nick Bosa being away from 49ers training camp

San Francisco wants second-year edge Drake Jackson to start this season, which probably explains why last year's two starting edges opposite Bosa, Charles Omenihu and Samson Ebukam, were both allowed to walk in NFL free agency earlier this spring.

Jackson, who started off strong his rookie year but ultimately turned into a healthy scratch down the stretch because of a lack of conditioning, appears much stronger this go-around.

And he's starting with the first-team unit in training camp, too, and not rotating out.

That said, Jackson could find himself outperformed by other veteran pass-rushers who have a lot more to lose if they don't make the 53-man roster.

But at least Jackson can know that Bosa's snaps are up for grabs in the interim and not his own.
