49ers' Day 2 prospect ends up making CBS Sports' list of questionable draft picks

CBS Sports listed Renardo Green as the 49ers' most questionable pick of the 2024 NFL Draft, which is rather interesting.

The 49ers needed a cornerback in the 2024 NFL Draft, and they got one in Renardo Green. But CBS Sports thinks it was the Niners' most questionable pick.

The San Francisco 49ers' 2024 NFL Draft approach was rather unorthodox.

Instead of taking a clear and immediate need in Round 1, such as the offensive line, general manager John Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan opted to grab Florida wide receiver Ricky Pearsall, a talented prospect many thought would slip well into the second round.

But Pearsall might be perfectly tailored for Shanahan's offense, and getting that fifth-year option on the table holds value in itself, especially with the cost of top-level wide receivers skyrocketing.

Few complaints there.

However, looking through the remainder of Niners selections, it was their second-round pick that drew some eyebrow raising from the post-draft fallout, at least according to CBS Sports' Josh Edwards.

In fairness to San Francisco, Edwards went through all 32 teams' draft classes and identified the most questionable pick for each.

For the 49ers, he tabbed their second-round selection, Florida State cornerback Renardo Green, taken at No. 64 overall.

"There was some late buzz that Green could get into the second round but that is not where I had him valued," Edwards said of the pick.

The draft analyst was mostly complimentary of the Niners' other draft selections, calling the group "a solid class overall."

But it seems to Edwards that San Francisco reached on Green.

"The 49ers have done well identifying cornerback contributors so perhaps this looks like a great decision in a few years," Edward nevertheless concluded.

That's the beauty of the draft, though. You never know until you know.
