49ers move Brandon Aiyuk to Vikings in this provocative trade proposal
By Peter Panacy
This proposed trade with the Vikings in which the 49ers ship off Brandon Aiyuk actually makes some logical sense.
In all likelihood, the San Francisco 49ers aren't going to honor wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk's recent trade request.
Aiyuk's sudden request, which actually seems quite late in the offseason saga surrounding his high-profile contract extension standoff, is probably more of a ploy to get the Niners moving on finalizing a deal that would keep him in the Bay Area for the long-term future.
But, considering Aiyuk is still under contract through 2024 and could receive the franchise tag over the following two seasons, the thought of San Francisco moving its best pass catcher from the last two seasons doesn't make much sense.
Especially for a 49ers team aiming for nothing short of a Super Bowl right now.
However, stranger things have happened. Things could have soured so much between Aiyuk and the Niners that a deal becomes mandatory.
But, if San Francisco ultimately opts to move Aiyuk, it'd have to get someone in return who could contribute right away.
That's the nature of a deal proposed by our FanSided sister site, The Viking Age, which suggested a thought-provoking trade between the 49ers and Minnesota Vikings.
49ers land Jordan Addison, 1st-round pick from Vikings in Brandon Aiyuk trade
Wide receiver Jordan Addison, Minnesota's first-round NFL Draft pick from 2023, found himself in the news recently for rather controversial events, an alleged DUI in Los Angeles that could result in a suspension by the NFL.
Nevertheless, the second-year pro impressed during his rookie season, notching 911 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns playing alongside superstar wideout Justin Jefferson.
Addison, interestingly enough, is included as part of TVA's trade proposal to pry Aiyuk away from the Niners:
In the proposed deal, San Francisco ships off Aiyuk and a seventh-round pick next year in exchange for Addison, the Vikings' fifth-round pick in 2025 and their first-rounder in 2026.
Even though numerous reports have said the 49ers have no interest in trading Aiyuk at this time, the general consensus is they won't budge unless a first-round pick is part of the conversation. While a would-be pick of this kind falls in 2026, it's nevertheless there. And the Niners would get a player who'd be ready to contribute now, which also makes the deal much more feasible than a mere player-for-picks trade.
It's certainly a trade worth considering, especially because it meets both of San Francisco's would-be demands.
Whether or not it happens, though, remains to be seen.
