San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy has proved doubters wrong time and time again.

However, 49ers beat reporter David Lombardi of The Athletic says that Purdy put a lot of doubts to bed with just one throw he made in his first major NFL action.

This throw occurred in the 2022 regular-season game against the Miami Dolphins. The Niners' previous starter, Jimmy Garoppolo, had gone down with a brutal ankle injury that ultimately ended his San Francisco tenure, and it seemed like the season was essentially lost.

How was this seventh-round draft pick going to come in and give the team a chance to win?

Turns out is exactly what he did.

It is worth checking out the full highlights from that game just to revisit how Purdy was completely ready for the big time when he got his first real NFL action.

The throw Lombardi is referring to happened around the two-minute mark of the video. It truly is an impressive throw from Purdy as he is instantly under pressure from an unblocked rusher, stands in the pocket, gets the ball out, takes a big hit, and gets nearly a 20-yard gain to tight end George Kittle on 3rd-and-10.

Most rookie quarterbacks in that situation would have scrambled like crazy or would have looked frazzled. Purdy was calm, collected, and poised as he delivered a perfect ball right on the money.

This was just the beginning of seeing what Purdy was capable of but it was certainly an important preview.

Lombardi singled out that one throw and for good reason. It was the best throw under duress in that game. But if you watch the full video, you see a preview of all the things that Purdy does well. He scrambles and improvises when he needs to, he finds his check-down if there's nothing downfield, and he goes through his reads methodically to find the right receiver.

It is easy to understand why head coach Kyle Shanahan saw the promise in Purdy even before the season began, forcing him to confide to 49ers CEO Jed York that Purdy was the best quarterback on the team.

There are some who still refuse to believe that Purdy is a good quarterback. However, those who have watched him play from the beginning know that he has special talent that makes him one of the better quarterbacks in the entire league.
