The 49ers made plenty of news on Wednesday, although Nick Bosa's extension probably overshadows the naming of team captains.

The San Francisco 49ers' biggest news of Wednesday, Sept. 6, wasn't the fact wide receiver and return specialist Ray-Ray McCloud was cleared from a wrist injury and is back to practicing, nor was it the announcing of team captains for the upcoming 2023 season.

No Bosa on the list of captains, but Purdy is on there. And it'll mark the second-year signal-caller's first time being named to this exclusive group.

It's not necessarily a bad thing, however, as quarterbacks need to exude leadership characteristics by defeault because of the nature of their position.

He is, though, the absolute youngest captain for San Francisco entering the upcoming season, as the remaining veterans are all well-established players, most of whom aside from Williams have played their entire careers with the 49ers.

Congratulations for Purdy, though. It's a well-deserved honor.
