The Niner Noise Podcast dropped earlier Tuesday, featuring a full breakdown of the San Francisco 49ers' 26-21 victory over the New Orleans Saints on Sunday afternoon. It's the Niners' second road victory of the season, as they look to recover from a 6-11 showing last year.
The podcast, featuring your hosts, Robert Morrison and Akshaj Dwivedula, covers all the details from the win, including a very important question: Was the game as close as the final score indicated?
The Saints were certainly more prolific on offense than expected, something both hosts concede, but you'll have to tune into the podcast to find out more:
A lot of the episode focuses on the play of quarterback Mac Jones, who made his first start as a 49er in New Orleans on Sunday, and how important it was for him to play well. Your hosts also discussed the impact of Kyle Juszczyk's concussion, Ben Bartch's high-ankle sprain, and the most recent prognosis of Brock Purdy's turf toe injury.
Toe injuries are no joke, it appears, with Akshaj citing 49ers' legend Patrick Willis' premature retirement, and Robert noting that the Niners dodged a bullet compared to what's happening with Joe Burrow in Cincinnati, who appears poised to miss much of the rest of the season with his own turf toe injury.
The one-up/one-down segment has a lot of conversation about the 49ers' rookies, as several of them played important roles in the victory on Sunday, particuarly the first player selected and one of the players taken in the final round of this year's NFL Draft.
Finally, Robert points out a name that Akshaj has barely uttered since the start of the season, one that would be a surprise to long-time listeners. This sends Akshaj into gush mode, because this player is his favorite, and, to be frank, we should also feel the same way. Tune in to hear more.
